Q: How did you first get the ideas for the books you've written?Ĭarlson: I wanted to write about a treasure hunt, because I had wonderful family friends who had set up treasure hunts for the kids in our neighborhood every summer. Mann: When I was 33, I was telling my daughter's niece a story, and somebody said, “You should write that down!” I thought, “Maybe I should.” I wrote it down, and I sent it in to Highlights (magazine) for children, and they published it - and I was, like, “This is the best thing ever!” So I started (writing) right away, at 33.
